Pension and Health Care Reform in San Francisco - Public Defender Jeff Adachi
|
As the only elected Public Defender in the state of California, and one of few elected public defenders in the United States, Mr. Adachi oversees an office of 93 lawyers and 60 support staff. The office represents over 23,000 people each year who are charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses. Before being elected as Public Defender in March 2002, Mr. Adachi worked as a deputy public defender in San Francisco for 15 years and in private practice for 2 years. He has tried over 100 jury trials, including numerous serious felony and homicide cases. My discussion with Mr. Adachi focused on ways to address San Francisco's persistent budget crisis and alternative approaches to achieving pension and health care reform - given that proposition B was not approved. Please listen to the full audio interview below. |

Director Kevin Epps Speaks to the Need for Accessible Expression for All San Francisco Residents
|
San Francisco Bay Area filmmaker, Kevin Epps burst onto the film scene in 2003 with his eye-opening documentary "Straight Outta Hunters Point". The film depicted the gritty realities of neighborhoods where most San Franciscans never tread. However, his career is far more than just that one act. Since his initial debut, Mr. Epps has continued to contribute to the artistic and cultural underpinnings of San Francisco. There are few residents who are more equipped to speak on the necessity to incorporate diversity into the City's arts and entertainment than is Mr. Epps. Our discussion focused on the need to allow all residents to express themselves through media and art, and efforts to ensure budget cuts and the need for big profits do not hamper this goal. |

Tomiquia Moss is working on the CJC's goal to provide solutions for individuals that have high social services needs, which are not satisfied by the criminal justice system. The Court tries to give appropriate services to those individuals, as opposed to incarceration or release. You can listen to the full audio of my interview with Tomiquia Moss (above). |

Now in her seventies, Davis, the "Walter Cronkite of the Bay Area," hosts a weekly news round- table and special reports on KQED, one of the nation's leading PBS stations. She has remained relevant and engaged in the today's stories, while offering her anecdote-rich perspective on the decades that have shaped us.
